End Product: Directional Control Valves
Customer is one of the leading manufacturer of hydraulic directional control valves supplying product to heavy duty machineries in sectors like construction, agriculture, material handling.
Customer Challenges
Customer was using an acrylic adhesive system that required a separate solvent-based activator to initiate curing. While the system provided acceptable bond strength, it introduced several operational and safety concerns.
The use of a solvent-based activator introduced multiple challenges on the shop floor. Its high flammability posed a serious fire hazard, raising safety concerns in the production environment. Prolonged operator exposure to these solvents also brought about concerns regarding potential long- term health effects. Furthermore, the need for a separate activator step made the application process cumbersome and inefficient, impacting overall productivity.
Elixir Solution
Elixir application engineers visited the customer’s shop floor to assess the bonding process and recommended Loxeal 33-47, a bead-on-bead, structural acrylic adhesive. This high-performance, two-component system cures when Part A contacts Part B, eliminating the need for a solvent-based activator. The absence of an activator simplifies the process, reduces application steps, and ensures quicker, more efficient bonding—making it an ideal choice for structural applications.
Product Testing and Validation
An application demonstration was conducted, followed by rigorous testing to assess the adhesive’s strength under dynamic load conditions. Additionally, the product was tested for long-term compatibility with hydraulic oils, as some nameplates are in constant contact with them. After extensive testing, the product was qualified for the application.
Key Benefits of Loxeal Sealant
Conclusion
Loxeal 33-47 offers a range of advantages, particularly in terms of ease of use, flexibility, performance, and cost efficiency. It eliminates the need for a activator reducing both time and cost while improving the working environment due to its safer handling properties.
